lay buddhist practice: Practice (paṭipadā) of the householder (gahaṭṭha, opposite of Agāra - homeless). Person (puggala) not having left home (or still clinging to world (loka, in ideal/not outwardly convention). For the 'Vinaya of the householder see DN 31. Upāsaka or Upāsikā revers to people having taken refuge into the Three Gem, yet not having gone forth into the homeless life.
